ABOUT

Phil and Clare renovated their previous home from top to bottom, but they didn’t stop there. They wanted more and that led them to this stunning location. Together, they have lovingly renovated Bowland Barn from a dilapidated shell to the gorgeous, homely base it is today.

They are both most at home in the great British countryside and moved into the property in 2013.  The rolling views over Morecambe Bay are what struck them initially, making them both fall in love with their new home. Since then they have sympathetically renovated the 17th Century barn to retain many of its original features, and keep it’s charming character alive, something which I’m sure you’ll appreciate when you visit.

Both are keen on living in an environmentally friendly way wherever possible, which has inspired them to incorporate this into the property. An electric car charging port, biomass boiler and solar heated water stay true to their values and are kind to the environment.

This friendly and down to earth couple love welcoming guests to stay at Bowland Barn, whether that’s large family groups looking for a base to explore or to reconnect after time apart, everyone is welcome here.

MEET PHIL

An outdoor instructor for over 25 years, Phil loves being outside in nature. He’s qualified in a huge range of outdoor activities from hill walking and climbing to kayaking and paddleboarding. A self-confessed handyman, he has done most of the renovations himself and enjoys upcycling materials found in the barn into gorgeous and substantial pieces of furniture for guests to enjoy.

Phil will often take guests out to enjoy various outdoor activities in the local area. One of his and the guests favourite things to do is canoeing and pizza making. They will pack up the ingredients and head out in the canoes to find a suitable location to set up. After cooking and enjoying their pizzas, they’ll head back along the river, tired and happy, after a day out in the wonderful Lancashire countryside.

MEET CLARE

Clare is a horse lover through and through, and after rehabilitating her own horses successfully from injury, she decided that she’d love to help others too. So, when Clare and Phil moved to Bowland, she designed, set up and opened Bowland Equine Therapy to do just that.  The purpose built facilities at Bowland Equine Therapy offer horse owners peace of mind that their horses are in the best place, whether they are recovering from injury or simply coming to stay for a holiday.

These facilities designed around the horses to give them the best care both physically and psychologically, mean that guests are welcome to bring their own horses. Livery is available for those staying with us, and with just a half an hour drive to the beach it’s the perfect getaway. Bowland Equine Therapies also hosts an all weather arena with showjumps, so if a bootcamp is more your style they have it covered.
